We Joined the Washington, D.C., Council to Train their Staff on Legislative Oversight

On January 12, 2024, we trained staff members of the Washington, D.C., Council in a four-hour legislative oversight workshop!

The session was attended by 37 staffers from either the committee or from personal offices of the Councilmembers. Jim Townsend and Elise Bean conducted the session covering topics such as setting oversight priorities, designing open-ended factual questions to guide an investigation, overcoming agency resistance to producing information, building factual consensus, managing the media, asking better hearing questions, and effecting change through follow-up.

We much enjoyed the workshop and hope to be back with the D.C. Council in the future!
